Ankara Sights, Sounds and Hotels
The ancient Ankara Citadel built around the third century in all probability by the Galatians, still stands today. The castle, restored in the Ottoman age, but dating back to the Selcuk period, was built on a prominent lava outcrop outcropping and is situated in the oldest part of the city. Within the walls of the fortress traditional wooden-beamed houses with beautiful gardens in the large courtyards, have been adapted and refurbished to offer the visitor welcoming and ambient restaurants. At the foot of the Citadel are interesting copper workshops that are worth a visit.
Nothing has change much in the Ankara Citadel over the last 600 years, and there is much character and lots of interest, as with all of Ankara. The fine Ankara hotels are also full of character and interest.
